What is Skype?
Skype is an online service that you can use for video messaging, voice calls, or to chat with other Skype users around the world. It is a way to share experiences or for work, no matter where you are. You can use Skype on your phone, computer, tablet, or TV. It is free to use. However, there are different versions with more features you can buy as well.
How to use Skype
Go to your web browser or app store to download Skype (Skype.com) to your computer, smart TV, tablet, or phone. Once you download Skype, double click on the Skype icon in your downloads, and create an account. After filling out the profile information, including setting up the different options you would like to use Skype for, you are close to ready! Next, start using Skype to stay in touch with friends or colleagues through group video calls, everyday chat, or to share photos and files of any size. You will need to add other contacts to use Skype's services. You can be in touch with other Skype users from around the world, no matter where they are!
Find friends and Add contacts on Skype
First, log in to Skype with your username and password. The Skype homepage will pop up with your contacts if you have any. To add more contacts - click on the "search tab" at the top of the Skype homepage. Then, type in the username of the person you wish to add, and "search Skype". Lastly, click on the person you are searching for, and click "add to contacts" and send them a contact request. You can also accept a friend request.
Video calls and messaging
When you see someone appear online, there will be a green checkbox on the top right-hand corner of your friend's icon. You can put your cursor over the icon and send a video request or chat. You first have to wait for the other user to accept your request to connect with them. Another way you can reach someone from your contact list is by clicking on the "Contacts" tab to view other options such as group video calls, instant messaging, and file sharing.
To my way of thinking
If you are trying to connect with someone from around the world, Skype is definitely for you! Skype is a place where you can contact family, friends, and colleagues through video chats, instant messaging, and file sharing. Some additional services do have low rates attached to them, such as the phone service, and these services might be good for those traveling internationally. Skype is a way for people to stay connected to those long distant relationships, including their professional and social contacts. It offers individuals the opportunity to connect with and keep engaged in people's lives.
