Postmates: Delivery Service, Job and Marketing Tool

Postmates is a service that offers delivery of almost anything, anywhere at anytime. If you've gotten used to delivery for your shopping with online shopping sites, you can expand your delivery options using Postmates. If you're a business that wants to offer delivery services, you can enroll to be a partner. Let's take a closer look.

Members join with their email address and use the website or app to order deliveries. Users can search for a specific business, item, or browse whatever is nearby, and when using the app on a smartphone, the GPS position will show nearby places that are in the delivery area.

Prices for the item you want delivered are listed along with the delivery fee. Users have the option to add a tip to the driver fee through the app, so all payments are cashless and use a credit card. Delivery fees start at about $4 for most orders, and I've also included a link below for readers to receive $100 in free deliveries good for seven days.

Here's $100 in FREE Postmates delivery fee credit (good for seven days).

There are currently over 16,000 business in over 250 cities with 2.5 million deliveries every month. So what can you order?

What's available?

Food delivery is one of the most popular items for delivery, with fast food, pizza, casual dining, desserts, coffee, 7-Eleven, and more. Besides food, there's delivery of office supplies, hardware, and clothing. Businesses with a list of items available for delivery are always available during their delivery hours. If a business or item isn't listed there is a custom order option.

For custom orders, users enter the description of the order with as much detail as possible along with an optional photo and estimated price. The request is sent to the business for fulfillment and delivery and if there are any problems or the business can't make the delivery notification is sent, and not charged.

While many users pay a fee per delivery, a monthly membership program is available for unlimited deliveries for all merchants listed on the website or app, with a minimum order of $20.

While standard delivery for businesses that are partners is about $4-5, peak demand, distance, and time to deliver can result in higher delivery charges, from $7 to $20) which are displayed when placing the order.  Monthly subscribers don't pay surge pricing, so it might make sense if you use delivery more than a few times a month and use one or more of the business partners.

Delivery is possible to almost any location which is one of the benefits. While homes, apartments, and businesses are frequent delivery locations, it's also possible to have something delivered to a classroom at a college, a park, or to a tailgate location in a parking lot, as long as it's accessible to the driver. It's even possible to order delivery for someone else in another city which can be as a gift or useful for someone who is unable to get out on their own.

What's not deliverable?

Since Postmates charges a credit card for any items and the delivery charge, it's not possible to order things that require a cash payment by the delivery person, but if payment is made already, the item can be picked up and delivered. Almost any item you can pick up on your own can be delivered, including Alchohol (if the buyer is of legal age), but animals, controlled substances, and gift cards aren't.

Postmates Delivery Work

If you're familiar with Uber or Lyft, being a Postmates driver is similar. However, a car isn't necessary. Many deliveries can be handled by bike, scooter or walking, as long as the trip isn't too long, Postmates knows the location of the delivery person, pickup location, and destination, so their software makes deliveries available based on the estimated time to deliver.

Fleet members have to be 18 or over and own an iPhone or Android smartphone Then all ghat's necessary is to enroll online, arrange a background check, provide banking information for payment and a home address for delivery of the welcome kit. The welcome package includes a Postmates pre-paid card that's used for making purchases, so you never have to use your own money. Postmates says average pay is about $25 an hour.

Businesses

Postmates will arrange delivery of any item a customer requests so that you may see Postmates prepaid cards used for purchases in your location. While any customer can order from any business, businesses, called partners, are integrated with the Postmates app. Customers can see photos of partner items get faster delivery (the delivery time appears on the app for the user), and partner items have a lower delivery fee because partners pay a fee to Postmates.

Any business can apply to be a partner by filling out the application at https://postmates.com/partner. An account executive will contact you to discuss your business and the associated fees. Postmates has plans for businesses of all sizes, from one location to thousands. The advantage of being a partner is that Postmates helps market your business to people who use the Postmates app and delivery is managed by them, saving a business staff and overhead.

To my way of thinking

Whether you want to arrange delivery, make money by delivering items, or build your business through the Postmates app, Postmates makes the convenience and service level people are becoming used to for delivery on-demand available for almost anything, anytime, anywhere.
