Golden Nugget 121: Check Your Internet Speed in Under a Minute

The Golden Nugget

If your internet feels slow, run a quick speed test before restarting your router or calling your internet provider. It can tell you if the problem is your connection or something else.

Why It Helps
Knowing your download, upload, and ping speeds helps you troubleshoot streaming, video calls, gaming, and slow web browsing. It also lets you see if you're getting the internet speed you're paying for.

How To Do It

  1. Connect to the Wi-Fi network you want to test.

  2. Open a web browser and go to speedtest.net or search "internet speed test" on Google.

  3. Click Go or Run Speed Test.

  4. Review your results:

    • Download Speed: How fast you receive data (higher is better).

    • Upload Speed: How fast you send data (important for video calls and sharing files).

    • Ping (Latency): How quickly your device responds (lower is better).

What's Considered Good?

  • 25 Mbps download: Good for one or two people browsing and streaming HD video.

  • 100 Mbps download: Great for most families with multiple devices.

  • 300–500+ Mbps download: Ideal for heavy streaming, gaming, and working from home.

  • 10 Mbps upload or higher: Great for video meetings and backing up photos.

  • Ping under 30 ms: Excellent for gaming and video calls.
