Golden Nugget 118: Save Time by Setting a Default Shape in PowerPoint

The Golden Nugget

If you use the same shape style over and over in PowerPoint, you can set it as the default. Every new shape you insert will automatically match your preferred formatting.

Why It Helps
This keeps your slides looking consistent and saves you from repeatedly changing colors, outlines, fonts, and effects every time you add a new shape.

How To Do It

  1. Insert a shape by going to Insert > Shapes.

  2. Format the shape the way you like—change the fill color, outline, size, text, font, or effects.

  3. Right-click the formatted shape.

  4. Select Set as Default Shape.

  5. From now on, every new shape of that type will use your default formatting automatically.
