Facebook - Friends and Likes

Facebook users become followers of a page when they click Like. A follower relationship is more one-way than a Friend relationship. When you have a page, you can see who your followers are and communicate with them, but only via status updates. Only a fraction of your followers will see an update in their NewsFeed, which is how Facebook creates a need for Pages to advertise to reach more users.

Your privacy is protected as a person, your followers only see the information on your Facebook page, not your personal profile that your Friends have access to.

A page maintains more separation between followers and the person who maintains the page but there is no limit to how many Likes you can obtain, and only Pages are allowed to purchase advertising.
