Facebook Business Page Timeline Layout
What's on a Facebook Business Page
A Facebook business Page is a Web site for your business on Facebook. And it's all free of charge. There are no monthly fees, setup fees, or other charges that are necessary for any Facebook user to create a Page. There are no limits on how many Pages a user can create, and Pages can be created for more than businesses. In addition to businesses, Pages can be created for public personalities, organizations, brand names, Web sites, and almost anything. Facebook's terms require an individual to have a personal account, and Pages are created using the personal login. The user becomes the “owner” of a Page, in addition to having a personal profile account. Personal information is not shown or shared on a Page and is kept private by Facebook. All content on Facebook Pages is public and can be viewed by any Web user.
Timeline View, Cover Photo, and Profile Image
All Facebook Pages use what's referred to as the “Timeline” view. The home page layout is standard for all Pages on Facebook and cannot be modified. It was possible to have a custom Facebook Page layout at one time, but on March 31, 2012, Facebook changed all Pages to the Timeline view. A large horizontal photo, called the Cover Photo, appears at the top of the Page. On the left, inset in the Cover Photo, is the Profile image, and to the right of the Profile image is the text name of the Page. A smaller version of the Profile Image, called a thumbnail, is used with every status update. The Like button appears on the Page until clicked, then it disappears. Viewers are required to sign up or log in to Facebook to Like a Page, but can still read any Page content without being a Facebook user.
Information and Apps
Below the Cover Photo is a band of information which includes the Page category, and some text about the Page. Several images and icons are located below the Cover Photo which are the App Icons, short for application icons. A standard application called Photos is included with each Facebook Page, and shows the most recent posted image. Additional App icons appear for the Apps as they are used or installed on the Page. The App icons are for both Facebook and third-party Apps. Up to 12 Apps can be used on a Page, and a drop down arrow appears to the right to access additional Apps. Below the App icons are links to separate pages for the Apps used on the Page. These links open the Apps individual pages and display the content of the App.
A section below the links called Highlights shows status updates, the Pages that are “Liked” by this Page, along with updates posted by fans. Any Friends who like the Page will appear under Highlights. On the right is a column which displays a Timeline, with a calendar showing a list of years. The years shown are based on when the business, organization, or entity was established from the data the Page owner entered on Facebook and isn't the amount of time the Page has been on Facebook. Ads, when displayed, appear below the Timeline calendar. The types of ads that appear are based on the logged in user's profile, not the Page itself.
