Facebook introduced the App Center on their developer blog. The App Center will be the destination directory for Facebook users to find and install Facebook apps.

Key points about the App Center:

  • Mobile apps must use the Facebook Login.
  • Paid apps for Facebook are supported
  • Poor app reviews can result in removal of an app from the App Center
  • A detail page is required for listing in the App Center

App Center Submission Guidelines

The App Center is open for developers now to submit any canvas, mobile, and Web app that follows the Facebook app guidelines.

Eligible apps include the following:

  • an app on Facebook.com in a canvas page
  • a mobile app for iOS, Android, or the Web that uses the Facebook Login
  • a Web site that uses tte Facebook Login and has an immediate logged-in personalized experience
  • an App for Pages built to manage or enhance other brand's Facebook Page

Facebook will feature highly-rated and well designed apps, and in the announcement indicated that apps with  poor reviews, or that don't meet quality guidelines will not be listed, so a review of any app submission will be required. From the Facebook statement, it appears that ongoing reviews will take place as well, and apps can be removed if the reviews are too low.

Mobile apps that use the Facebook login feature will be able to link to the Apple App Store or Google Play market for download on a mobile device, supporting mobile installation of the app.

The app detail page will be the information users will see in the App Center. For any app developer who's submitted apps to any other app store, the design, graphics, and text requirements are similar. The app detail page requires a display name, category, subcategory, screenshots, short description, detailed description,  icons, cover image, small banner, large banner, and images.

Facebook has supported in-app purchases and will now support paid apps. For information, an app developer should submit a screen shot of the app using the Facebook Paid Apps Sign Up Form.

Apps submitted by May 18 will have priority in the review process for listing in the App Center, which is open now for app developers to submit apps.
